Estrellas de la Democracia
What do stars and democracy have in common?
About the program
Welcome to the "Stars of Democracy" workshop! In this fun and exciting workshop aimed at high school students, we will explore together the world of democracy and discover why it is important to take care of it.
¨Stars of Democracy¨ - Board game
We're launching a board game so you can bring the workshop to your school whenever you want!
It consists of a deck of 50 cards, with 50 different scenarios in which each student must identify which requirements of democracy are fragmented.
Did you know you can now get the game at your school?
About the workshop...
Start :
Brief introduction about the values of democracy, history and emergence.
Development:
Paper star-shaped figures of the appropriate size and color are distributed to all groups. Each point will have one of the requirements of democracy (right to vote, right to be elected, right to compete for the popular vote, free and fair elections, freedom of association and freedom of the press).
Through various given fictitious scenarios (in which different audiovisual resources will be used to generate impact) circumstances are posed where many of the democratic values are not present and therefore the tip of the star to which it is pointed is asked to break. Throughout various scenarios, the stars will be different and some will even no longer look like such.
Closing:
The young participants are invited to reflect on the forms that their stars took, representing many of our democracies that no longer preserve many of the principles that made them such.
Depending on the occasion, this workshop will be accompanied by other motivational talks, experiences from former scholarship recipients and information about the Embassy's programs (Young Ambassadors, TechGirls, National Science Camp, among others) answering questions and/or queries.
